Here is a quick post to recommend a book called Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons by Siegfried Engelmann. You can begin this book with your child as early as 4 years old. Our daughter was reading at a 2nd grade level just before she turned 5 thanks to the simplicity and thoroughness of the lessons.
Like the title suggests, you do one easy (maybe 10-30 minute) lesson a day for 100 days. The lessons are scripted, meaning you simply read what it tells you to read directly to your child. No thinking or teaching skills required on your part!
I highly recommend this gem to any parent who wants to get a head start on developing good lifelong reading habits for their child.
